Educational Garden Archives
Going from two unused horse paddocks to this glorious garden in only three years…WOW, how exciting! Starting in 2017, the Educational Garden Committee, led by Diane Shonyo, developed a 5 year plan to take this land from useless to superb. This page will document the changes through the years.
We couldn’t make such rapid progress without the generosity of Camden County Parks Department. We’ve also been the recipient of two substantial grants from New Jersey American Water. We’re very grateful, also, for the hard work of the Power Corps team. THANK YOU ALL!
Our first public event ever was the October 2018 Harvest Fest. We were pleased to host Freeholder Jeffrey Nash, Nicholas DeVecchis from NJ American Water, employees of the Parks Department, and all Master Gardeners. It was a glorious day!
As the 2019 gardening season began, we became aware of PowerCorp Camden. What an asset! These young people have helped on numerous days with digging, mulching, fencing and planting. We like to think we’re instilling a gardening interest in them, with a lesson each time they come.
We have informal visitors in the garden! These girls were really interested in the vegetables, strawberries, and compost.
April 27 was Green Garden Fair day. We offered tours of our garden, explaining what we hoped to accomplish that year.
